Our waters are empty and so is the cooler by the counter where you help yourself to refills. So: time goes by with no sign of our food. Milady chose the Quesadillas and we each had water - I was not particularly impressed with their beers last visit but I did like the pie and fries. They were out of Aussie meat pies (the main reason for even going there) so I settled for the bowl of chili. Eventually a nice young lady took our order. We settled on an inside table and waited. The place was not crowded with tables available both inside and out. We were there around 7pm on a Saturday night. Sadly this was not the case, and in fact it was even worse this time around, and that took a bit of doing. We thought that we would revisit this place - on our last visit it was not very inspiring and as an expat Aussie I really wanted it to be better. At one point, the clues were popular songs played with kazoos. I thought it was just a joke, but I believe ONLY true geeks, pen pocket protector, kind souls would enjoy it. Geeky Trivia: I went on a Tuesday, and it was trivia night, geeky trivia. It wasn't overbearing, got lost in the background, and I forgot it was playing. ![]() Two people serving 15 tables, so a little slow, but the server checked in and got the order right. I drank my tap water out of the cafeteria style thick glass that doesn't break if it falls cuz its more so hard plastic. Chicken wings were tasty, crispy outside, moist inside. Fries were cut and decent in taste, crispy. Had the quesadilla with chicken, it was only but tasted good. Food: Good flavor, mostly sandwiches, or hand held food, and definitely greasy. Great for good weather days! Tables outside are picnic tables. Outdoor pavilion/patio is huge! Many tables. The environment: Indoor is small, there is a bar, board games, and a game room. It is definitely for the get your hands dirty, no pretense, come as you are, very casual place. This is just the start of our story - you can help us continue to develop it.Platypus Brewing was. Beer and food pairing, although not a new concept, is an art in-itself and we take great care crafting great beer and food combos for you to enjoy! We have been creating and serving culinary delights from our in-house kitchen since it first opened in 2016. The dream quickly became a reality.įor Sean, Rachna and Morgan, food is a quintessential part of the brewery experience. The passion of crafting great beer, while creating a friendly and relaxed neighborhood environment for people to come together and enjoy good drink and food, started to take shape. The concept evolved as the three Platypi discussed venture possibilities and realized that all the things that they loved about both Australia and Texas were one and the same, a cultural overlap so-to-speak. Morgan also has his share of home brewing over the years and the idea of creating a brewery near home had instant appeal. Alas the Brisbane brewery has not happened (yet!) but through the fortunes of life, family brought them back to Houston in 2015 and the idea of opening a brewery continued to grow.Įnter Morgan, a great friend living in Houston … although Morgan and Sean happen to both be from Australia, they actually met while living in Houston 15+ years ago and bonded over all things rugby and beer. The craft beer bug had definitely bit both Sean and Rachna, and they started scoping possible options for opening a brewery in Brisbane, Queensland. Sean went on to take a Master Brew course and upgraded the original brew kit to continue crafting his beers. ![]() Little did she realize that this was the start of a true passion. The story starts with a small home brew kit that Rachna bought Sean for Christmas 10+ years ago when they first moved from Houston to Australia. just very very south and very very west!!)
